Lymphedema
Lymphedema is a condition of localized fluid retention and tissue swelling caused by a compromised lymphatic system. People with Lymphedema can be at risk for complications like infection, loss of mobility, and pain. When being treated for lymphedema, your therapist will work closely with you to determine the best course of treatment including:
Manual techniques to decrease swelling
Compression and wrapping techniques to keep swelling from returning
Exercises to activate muscle pumping to facilitate edema decongestion
Education for self-care techniques to manage symptoms after therapy
