Aquatic Therapy
The benefits of aquatic physical therapy are numerous. The chief benefit is the pool’s water supporting between 25 and 100% of total body weight. This alleviates joint stress and pain allowing the patient to move more freely through their exercises and build muscle. The hydrostatic pressure of the water helps reduce swelling and stimulates blood flow. Our Aquatic Therapists focus on each patient’s needs in one-on-one therapy to maximize the benefits of the aquatic environment and help you realize your best quality of life. Hydrostatic pressure: reduces swelling and stimulates blood flow
Warm, 91˚ water: facilitates muscle relaxation and increases peripheral circulation; stimulates body awareness, balance, and trunk stability
Viscosity of Water: provides resistance for building strength
Reduced gravity: in the pool allows the patient to stand and begin gait training and strengthening exercises without causing further damage to healing structures
Buoyancy: in warm water results in decreased pain sensitivity and supports the joints and one's body weight. It reduces gravitational pull and lessens compressive forces overall.
Boost in morale: and confidence can be established by providing a positive environment in which to function
